DESCRIPTION: This Victorian mansion was designed by William Curlett (the Flood mansion, the Shreve and Phelan buildings) in the Queen Anne style for United States Congressman Thomas Jefferson Clunie in 1897. The home was declared a registered San Francisco historic landmark in 1981. Outstanding architectural elements are the original reinforced concrete foundation, and the open "Belvedere" at the top of the home, which is one of only two surviving in San Francisco today. Since 1981, the home has been used as a licensed Bed and Breakfast hotel known as "The Victorian Inn on the Park". Fully restored and updated, this magnificent home retains much superb architectural detailing, including the generous use of mahogany, oak, and redwood paneling in the foyer, front parlor, dining room, library, and other rooms; seven fireplaces with a variety of mantels and surrounds; lovely period chandeliers and fixtures; stained and art glass windows; Bradbury and Bradbury wallpapers; generally eleven foot interior ceilings, and a gabled roof. The inlaid oak floors on the main level are of three different designs. Also, several of the themes used in the exterior of the home, such as the egg and dart trim, are repeated at various places in the interior space, creating an architectural consistency and continuity very pleasing visually. The home is completely and tastefully sprinklered, and there is an attached one-car garage. Leased parking for an additional five cars is available across the street at a very nominal cost. Because of the current business use of the mansion, it is fully furnished in the Victorian style and is being offered for sale either as an ongoing business with the B&B license included, or as a magnificent private residence. PERSONAL: (INCLUDED IN SALE) Stove, refrigerator,
dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer. |
